7 Improving the wing tip

Now that the wing root as been improved, we can make an attempt improving the wing tips. Blended winglets are placed on the wingtips, as shown in the following image. The span is still exactly 8 meters. This igs file is based on the "Fairings" wing geometry and is provided in the "Fairings-Winglets" sub-folder.
 

 

Proceed as in the preceding chapter to create the new geometry. The main parent of this new geometry should be the "Fairings geometry".

Once the runs have been processed, we can add a new curve to the chart. Here is the result that should be obtained:
 

 

According to this plot the winglets are slightly beneficial, especially near the stall angle, the maximum CL is slightly increased while the minimum drag remains unchanged.
